She told us that the exhibition offers a journey through the textile history of the bra, while also exploring it’s communicative effects. We learned that ever since the very first bra was patented in 1914, no other article of clothing has mirrored social, political, and cultural change quite like the bra. Julie explained how the bra reveals a lot about role models, beauty ideals, taboos and moral ideas, and at that moment we understood exactly how The TaTa Top fit perfectly into this exhibit.   [caption id="attachment_4189" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Robbie entering the exhibit... At the center of the exhibition are hanging informational panels that lead visitors through eight areas of social changes. From the early suffragettes fighting the corset to the liberated women of the 1920’s who wanted to look flat and boyish to the topless protests in 1968 and all the way to the present day #freethenipple movement--Many of the original exhibits show how our perception of attractiveness and beauty, and even our perception of decency and taboos, has changed.   [caption id="attachment_4191" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Julia translates the exhibit for us Julia translates the exhibit for us[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4192" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]A medal awarded to women in Germany for having lots of kids! Whoo hoo![/caption]   When we debuted The TaTa Top in late-May 2014, we were hoping to rile authority and provoke deeper thought about the societal norms of censoring women’s bodies. We knew we also wanted a charity aspect, and we formed two strong partnerships. Over the past seven months, our goals have evolved and turned into something much bigger than we ever could have imagined. We have raised over $17,000 for breast cancer prevention and women’s rights and counting! We have been so appreciative of all the insightful conversations we have had with our customers. We have learned so much from them, and we continue to learn so much from them. Seeing The TaTa Top “go down in history” was a great way to end 2014 and look back on what we have been able to accomplish with the help of all our supporters. We couldn’t be more grateful!   [caption id="attachment_4190" align="aligncenter" width="640"]IMG_6036 Our Frankfurt guide and museum friend, Julia Bastian!![/caption]   The “Body Talks” exhibit can be visited in Frankfurt until February 2015 before it's moved to Berlin for the remainder of the year.
